The Office of the Attorney General's primary responsibility is to defend the integrity of the laws of the Territory of American Samoa. To fulfill this responsibility, the Office of the Attorney General is divided into two distinct divisions: the (1) Civil Division and the (2) Criminal Division.
Civil Division
The Civil Division provides legal representation to the executive branch of the American Samoa Government (ASG), its respective departments, agencies, boards, commissions, and officials. The Office of the Attorney General files suits in defense of or to enforce the Territory's laws, regulations, and policies. And although prohibited from legal service to or representing private parties, the Office of the Attorney General serves and
protects the rights of all the citizens of the Territory through its various divisions. Actions that benefit all of the Territory's citizens include enforcement of health, safety and consumer regulations of the Territory.

Through the Civil Division, the Office of the Attorney General is also charged with initiating child support actions.
Criminal Division
