              American Samoa Entry Permit Requirements

A citizen of a foreign country not in the Entry Permit Waiver Program,  may enter American Samoa for an allowable purpose after the Attorney General or Chief Immigration Officer issues an entry permit for the foreign national to visit American Samoa for up to thirty days unless an extension is granted. Following are the requirements for the entry permit:

  1. Foreign national must have an immigration sponsor in American Samoa who is responsible for hosting foreign national during foreign national’s stay in American Samoa.
     

  2. At least three business days prior to foreign national’s arrival in American Samoa, sponsor must submit to the Immigration Office a completed application for entry permit, copies of the foreign national’s travel documents that are valid during the visit, roundtrip ticket to country of origin or onward ticket to another country authorizing entry. Medical clearance and police clearance from foreign national’s country of origin, and American Samoa court and hospital clearances for foreign national may be required before issuance of the entry permit.
     

  3. Entry permit application must be signed by the sponsor, the sponsor’s senior matai if sponsor is living on communal land, and sponsor’s village pulenu'u or District Governor.
     

  4. Payment of required fees.

30 DAY PERMIT

Foreign nationals are required to obtain a 30 Day Permit when visiting American Samoa. The permit is valid for 30 days. Foreign nationals four (4) years of age and under are exempt from the permit fee although they are still required to go through the process to obtain a permit.

Application Process

Submit Copies of the following documents:

​

  1. Copy of valid passport or Document of Identity (both must be valid for at least six (6) months prior to date of departure from American Samoa);

  2. Copy of itinerary or ticket (must be a round trip ticket);

  3. Clearance from the District Court of American Samoa;

  4. Clearance from the Lyndon B. Johnson Tropical Medical Center (LBJ) business office;

  5. Police clearance from traveler's home country; (For Samoa citizens only, police clearance valid for one year.)

  6. Medical/health clearance from traveler's home country;

Additional Requirements:

  1. 30 Day Permit must be requested  at least 3 business days prior to date of travel to American Samoa ;

  2. Local sponsor must obtain signatures from sponsor's family sa'o as well as the pulenu'u of the sponsor's village or residence. If the local sponsor holds a deed for privately owned land, signature of the sa'o will not be required. Must provide a copy of the deed with local sponsor's name.

  3. Local sponsor must show up at the Immigration Office to ensure all the required documents are included in the application package, to sign the application and to verify their identity BEFORE 30 Day Permit application is processed. 

  4. Local sponsor must be 21 years or older 

 

Important Note:

​Any person or group arriving in American Samoa without the approvals required  may be refused entry by an immigration officer

Fees

  1. 30 Day Permit fee - $40 USD (non-refundable)(fee is waived for children under four (4) years of age). 
    Extension:$50 USD

  2. Court Clearance - Check with the district court at (684) 633-1101.

  3. Hospital Clearance - Check with the business office at (684) 633-1222.

NOTE: Sponsor must appear in person at the Immigration Office to submit the required documents and initiate processing.
